Valtellina is a valley to savour. From the northerns shores of Lake Como to the Livigno mountains, the Sondrio province offers a wide variety of top-quality food and wines, including bresaola and pizzocheri, which are well known across Italy, and the local specialities of each village, such ad cheese, wines, grappa and spirits, sweets and bakery products, fresh pasta and meat.
Valtellina's food and wine specialities are the precious legacy of the local peasant tradition: the cuisine that used only healthy and authentic products of this land. Engage all your senses to discover our food and wines.
Nature outside the window
La Brace is located in Lower Valtellina, between Morbegno and Sondrio. This position is ideal since it’s a few kilometres away from Lake Como and the Alps. The valley floor, where Counts Gucciardi built the original facility, is a green and sunny expanse, protected by the mountains and dominated by nature.
This is a land where humans have built a close and respectful relationship with nature. Every season has its characteristics: nature’s vivid colours in spring, the fantastic produce that this land offers in summer, delicious berries in autumn, and the white winter blanket that gently covers the valley.
Mountain activities in Valtellina
The Sondrio province offers endless occasions for practising mountain sports all year round. From La Brace, you can easily reach Valtellina’s main ski resorts, such as the ski areas of Aprica, Valmalenco, Valgerola and Valchiavenna, and many other destinations where you can practice ski touring, snowshoeing and snow hiking.
In spring and summer, golf enthusiasts can stay at our hotel, which is only 10 km away from the Caiolo Golf Club with an 18-hole course. Mountaineers can reach a multitude of peaks, shelters and bivouacs at significant heights, whereas bikers can enjoy the uphill trails and the Alps passes of the area. Mountain climbers will find their paradise in Val Masino, with the famous Sasso Remenno and the “Corna della Caurga”, which is only 1.5 km away from our hotel.
But Valtellina is not just about mountain sports. Here, you can also enjoy Windsurfing and Kitesurfing at Colico on Lake Como. You can also have fun at the Cable park of Piantedo or enjoy canyoning or rafting and canoeing in adventurous torrents and Adda rapids.
Valtellina, a family-friendly area
Valtellina is adventure and much more. Here, parents and children of any age can have the best holiday immersed in nature. La Brace is near the Valtellina Trail, which crosses the whole valley along river Adda. Whether you walk or go by bike, you’ll be immersed in the beautiful surrounding nature, points of interest and picnic areas.
You can organise quad or horse-riding excursions to enjoy nature with minimum effort. The more adventurous ones can fly above the Albaredo valley at Fly Emotion, the first sports facility that makes you fly between two mountain slopes hanging by a rope while enjoying spectacular views. Or, you can take your time to go to Val Tartano and cross the “Bridge in the Sky”, Europe’s tallest suspended footbridge.
Families can choose among an immense variety of excursions and day trips to visit the nearby Pyramids of Postalesio or discover the various trails and mountain pastures. La Brace is also 20 minutes away from the beginning of the trail that crosses the beautiful Val di Mello (an appendix of Val Masino), which is suitable for people of any age due to its flat terrains. Here, you can enjoy relaxing walks in the summer and have fun snowshoeing in the winter. Those who have an e-bike can try the trails along the Cech coast in Lower Valtellina. But if you’d like to challenge yourself a bit more, we recommend choosing more demanding itineraries to reach the heights.
Winter is the best season to come if you love snow. Skiing, snowboarding, bob or snowshoeing: whatever you choose, a super fun day out is guaranteed.
